How I Put Together a Wardrobe of 10 Things and Looked Different Every Day

Hi, my name is Natalia, I am not a designer, not a stylist and have absolutely nothing to do with fashion. But I, like most women, always want to look spectacular and harmonious, while not spending a lot of time and money. Famous stylists have long been armed with the idea of a capsule wardrobe and are sure that you can look different every day, even if the number of things in the closet can be counted on the fingers. The main thing is to choose them correctly.

Today I decided to conduct an experiment and find out if an ordinary girl can collect the same vivid images as stylists, if she is limited to only 10 things for 15 days. So let’s go.

I chose 10 things and started a 15 day experiment

A capsule wardrobe is a set of items of clothing where all the elements are combined with each other and from them you can create images for different occasions. Usually it consists of 6-15 things. I studied the opinions of experts and  chose the best option for myself – 10 pieces , not counting shoes and accessories. The experiment itself lasted a fortnight, during which I collected 15 images for different purposes and occasions.

Things I used in the experiment: a blazer jacket, knitted dress, t-shirt, knitted sweater, trousers, an extended cardigan, jeans, a skirt, a jacket, a coat.

Of course, you can always have in your wardrobe two pairs of jeans, three t-shirts and enjoy the convenience and comfort. But I want to look stylish and different in any environment, while not forgetting about conscious consumption and not clogging my chest with extra clothes. Previously, I often sinned by making purchases that go poorly with each other, and when choosing an image this often discouraged me.

1. Meeting with friends

On the first day of the experiment, I had a meeting with my friends planned. Every woman has a universal thing that is suitable for all occasions. I have a cozy elongated cardigan. I was amazed at how much it will change if you add peppercorns to the image: a belt with a massive buckle, large earrings and pumps.

2. To the store for shopping

I was surprised how different an elongated cardigan would look if you put it on in an ensemble with jeans and sneakers. In such a comfortable bow I went to the store, taking with me a roomy backpack.

3. Going to the cinema

And in an oversized knit sweater, it turns out you can suddenly become light and airy. One has only to add a skirt and ankle boots to it. To prevent a strong wind from becoming an obstacle to my trip to the cinema, I threw on my coat and gathered my hair in a ponytail.

4. Dinner at the cafe

When my husband offered to go to a cafe for dinner, I was very happy. Finally, I got the opportunity to walk the holiday outfit. A black dress in tandem with black shoes is an immortal classic in which, as it seems to me, every girl will look spectacular.

5. A long walk along the promenade

It was getting colder in the city that day, and I decided it was time to warm ourselves. A hat, a warm scarf and ultra-thin body tights, which will not allow the ankles to freeze, have become an excellent addition to this image.

6. Work meeting

At the working meeting I wanted to look respectable, but not too formal. It seemed to me that the lavender jacket, which became a bright spot in this rather laconic way, did an excellent job of this task.

7. Webinar

In the company of colleagues in the workshop, it was important for me to look spectacular, but at the same time feel relaxed. Here the blazer came to the rescue again, only this time he had to team up with jeans and a light scarf.

8. On a visit to the grandmother

I put on the same scarf to meet with my grandmother. It turned out that combines well with a black dress and shoes. Well and where without a cozy plush cardigan! Grandma appreciated the outfit.

9. A trip out of town

Away from the concrete jungle, I want to feel as comfortable as possible. For this purpose, sneakers, jeans, a sweater and a favorite scarf will be out of competition.

10. Walking with friends

The next day it got a little warmer, and I changed my coat to a jacket, and my warm sweater to a T-shirt. And I fully felt the arrival of spring, so I took out my sunglasses.

11. Workdays

As if by magic, my dress turned into a skirt. I put on a sweater and a warm jacket from above. To bring a little variety to the look, I took a brown mini bag.

12. Shopping

Going shopping, I remembered that I had not wore ballet shoes for a long time. When I put them on with a short skirt and a cardigan, I had the feeling that I was back in high school.

13. Meeting

For the workshop, I again chose a jacket, but this time I combined it with a skirt. The day was hot enough, and ultrathin tights saved me. And I also found a long belt for the bag, and it turned out that it looks no less interesting.

14. To the hairdresser

To walk to the hairdresser, I put on my skirt again. Thanks to the sweater, I was warm enough, in addition, I threw a jacket on top and gathered my hair in a bun.

15. Interview

I am a journalist and often interview. For such an important purpose, I put on a strict dress with a bright blazer. And before leaving, I remembered that such a cool belt was attached to it. It turned out that any jacket will look much more spectacular if you use this detail and emphasize the waist.

My findings

The experiment made me understand that 10 things are enough to create 15 or more interesting images. Other than that, I changed my mind about my wardrobe and came to the conclusion that for a long time I won’t go out for shopping . Like many girls, I like to shop on the eve of the new season, but for a while I decided to leave this good tradition.

I also realized that if possible you should not buy trendy things that will cease to be a trend in a couple of months. Instead, it is better to pay attention to those elements of the wardrobe that will never go out of style and go well with everything. Great examples are black dress, pumps, jeans.

Would you like to repeat the experiment of the heroine? Which of her images did you like the most?
