Robert Kiyosaki, author of the bestselling book Rich Dad Poor Dad , wrote the wonderful words : “We are slaves to our habits. Change your habits and your life will change. ” But how often people spend money on something that they don’t really need, or just don’t keep track of their expenses.
We thought a lot about Kiyosaki’s quote and decided to find everyday habits that make us waste money where we can save money. We already knew that we needed to pay bills on time and go to restaurants less often, so we focused on not the most obvious things that often cost a pretty penny.
1. Buy a lot of household chemicals
We looked at the labels of cleaning products in the store and realized that many of them have very similar ingredient. So why pay more when you can limit a few proven products with different types of surfaces? In some cases, household chemicals are generally perfectly replaced by cheap and environment friendly products like vinegar and soda.
2. Use “special” wipes for cleaning
3. How much product should you use
Certain skin care products, such as serums, cleansing toners, and acne creams, can be harmful if used with interest. But even if all goes well, excess makeup won’t make it more effective. For face and décolleté , 1/4 tsp is enough.
4. Leave equipment in standby mode
Appliances that you turned off but did not unplug continue to consume electricity. This is especially true for devices : TV, DVD-player, microwave oven, etc. Of course is small, but there are a lot of them in the apartment as they say, my money is gone by something but i don’t know. It is definitely worth turning off the equipment at least before a long departure.
5. Collection of household appliances
Rice cookers, bread makers, deep fryers, grill equipment, steam generators, vacuum cleaners and many other appliances cost a lot, but they do not always pay off. Often we take an expensive after watching commercials or listening to someone’s advice, and then the equipment just gathers dust in the closet.
6. Fill refrigerator with food
It’s not even that food goes bad, because they don’t have time to eat it. In an overcrowded cell, normal air circulation is impaired and food is less cool. To put a lot of food in the refrigerator to consume more electricity.
7. Buying products out of season
Vegetables and fruits inherent seasonality, which affects not only their taste, but also their cost. Surely you yourself have noticed that in winter some goods are sold with a huge margin, but in summer they cost a penny. Buying and freezing food during the low-price season can help you avoid unnecessary waste.
8. Turn on heating at maximum
It is not at all necessary to constantly add heat in the boiler or radiators for fear of catching a cold, because moderate cold is good for health. At night, there is generally no point in setting temperature much higher than 18 ° C – this is the optimal level for a comfortable sleep.
A good way not to overpay for heating is to install special regulators on the radiators . In some cases, savings can be as high as 40%.
9. Install powerful showers and taps
An older style showerhead uses approximately 19 litres per minute – that’s 10 litres more! But with special water-saving, the figure can be almost half . If you shower for 5 minutes every morning, you will save 350 liters in just a week. And a dripping tap can waste up to 200 litres of water a day.
10. Pay for what you can do yourself
Of course, it is better to entrust serious repairs to professionals, but you can do some housework yourself and save money. We are talking about replacing lights and switches, filling seams, sealing windows and many other things we are used to paying for.
- The best advice for saving money was given to me by a professor at the university: “Before paying for someone’s work, calculate how much you earn per hour and how much you will spend if you do it yourself . ” I realized this when I ordered a dry cleaning of the sofa. For an hour of work, the cleaner took as much as I earned in 5 hours. So now I am cleaning furniture myself, and it takes me the same hour for the sofa.
What do you think, in order not to deny yourself anything, you need to spend less or earn more? What are you doing yourself?
