We are no longer in school where mental ability could be easily determined by the way you wrote a math test. In adult life, just memorizing information is not enough, you need to understand it and be able to logically apply it in the right situation in practice. At such moments, you understand that the indicator of higher intelligence is not at all the execution of mechanical tests, but the way you behave every day.
We figured out what mechanical actions that we perform in our everyday life indicate the presence of high intelligence.
1. You have messy desk
A study by researchers at the University of Minnesota found that people who constantly clean their desk may promote healthy eating, generosity, and conventionality. However, the research also shows that a messy desk may confer its own benefits, promoting creative thinking and stimulating new ideas.
2. You are comfortable with yourself
Researchers followed people between 18 and 28 years old and found the more frequently the average person socialized, the happier they were — but not the subset of people studied who were highly intelligent.
So if you like to spend time alone to work on a project, to learn something new, to write that business plan, or to grind away at all the steps you need to take to reach your goals, don’t assume you’re a loner. You may simply be smarter than the rest of us.
3. Do you prefer cats
According to a new study. — “Dog people” and “cat people” really do have different personalities. Dog lovers were more energetic and outgoing — and also tended to follow rules closely. Cat lovers, on the other hand, were more introverted, more open-minded and more sensitive than dog lovers. Cat people also tended to be non-conformists, preferring to be expedient rather than follow the rules.
4. You doubt you are smart enough
A phenomenon known as the Dunning-Kruger effect : less competent and intellectually developed people tend to exaggerate the degree of their understanding of the problem (as well as the level of development of their mental abilities in principle), while experts and intellectuals, on the contrary, are more likely to doubt themselves. Therefore, if you often doubt your knowledge and skills, then most likely you are doing it completely in vain.
5. You have a good sense of humor.
The ability to react quickly to what’s happening with a good joke is also an indicator that you are much smarter than average. Humor signals that the speaker is resourceful, knows how to think outside the box, and treat problems philosophically. Also, American scientists conducted a study , as a result of which they found out that professional comedians have higher IQs compared to average people.
6. You often feel inner anxiety
If you worry a lot, fear not—your anxiety just might be a sign of high intelligence.
In a recent study, for instance, psychologist Alexander Penney surveyed more than 100 students. The researchers found that students with more angst—for instance, those who agreed with survey statements like “I am always worrying about something”—scored higher on a verbal intelligence test.
7. You use obscene language
Who would have thought, but the use of abusive words in speech also signals of high intelligence. For example, psychologists at the Massachusetts College of Art have found that knowledge of swear words and the ability to use them is rather an advantage. The participants in the experiment with the highest IQs and the largest vocabulary were able to name the most swear words in a minute .
8. You go to bed and wake up late.
If you feel it difficult to wake up early, then most likely you are the owner of high intelligence. Research shows that night owls , people who feel more alert and productive after sunset, are more likely to have higher intelligence, better jobs and higher incomes than those who awaken with roosters.
Which of these IQs have you noticed in yourself?
